Brands, be catalysts for change!

Now OPEN: 4th cycle of TIWW purchasing practices metric

The Better Buying Partnership IndexTM survey opens for its third cycle from October 1 - 31 2024, calling on manufacturers in the apparel sector to rate their brand partners’ purchasing practices. Through this annual temperature check,  TIWW aims to collect data to drive industry-wide progress and promote shared accountability. The findings will be presented at the OECD Forum on Due Diligence in the Garment and Footwear Sector in February 2025.

Consideration for the impact of brands’ purchasing practices across the sector is getting stronger with increased attention from consumers, investors, NGOs, the media and legislators across the globe. Responsible purchasing practices are fundamental to Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD) requirements, which are becoming mandatory due to the EU CSDDD. They are also key to brands meeting their social, financial and environmentally sustainable goals.

The Better Buying Partnership IndexTM is a brief survey designed to provide a ‘temperature check’ of your manufacturer relationships, helping you to keep track of progress throughout the year, identify any pressing issues and map solution pathways together with your manufacturers.

Share the flyer and accompanying e-mail with your manufacturers and help measure progress towards responsible purchasing practices.

FAQ’s

  • TIWW metrics are intended to measure progress and accelerate change across the sector. Our purchasing practices metric uses the data gathered by the Better Buying Partnership IndexTM Survey to provide a purchasing practices ‘score’ for 2021, 2022 and 2023. The same process will be employed on an annual basis until 2025. The more data we collect, the more robust this score will be and the more we will be able to measure and track change across the industry.

  • The Better Buying Partnership IndexTM (BBPI) survey is a brief, accessible survey for manufacturers to rate their buyers’ purchasing practices via only 15 impactful questions. The BBPI informs TIWW’s purchasing practices score and opens for its third cycle from October 2 - November 2 to track the industry's commercial practices at large. It is intended to act as a ‘temperature check’ on purchasing practices in the garment and footwear industry.

  • To ensure we collect as much information from as wide a stakeholder base as possible, we are inviting brands and manufacturers across the globe to participate.

For brands, this information will provide direct feedback from your manufacturers on purchasing practices. This is valuable information that can be used to build better relationships with manufacturers, understand how/what processes need to improve internally and provide a basis for work on social and environmental sustainability.

Manufacturers need only 5 to 10 minutes to complete this survey for each of their brand partners. Information will be shared anonymously and will help provide the industry with an idea of the current state of purchasing practices worldwide. This will also provide a list of topics that have a direct impact on manufacturer operations and therefore need to be addressed in the short to medium term so as to see an improvement of conditions for workers in factories.
